DIVERSITY STATEMENT:

Jonathan is accepting of and accepts clients of all backgrounds, genders, races, religions, sexual orientations and other self-defined personal or cultural qualities. Jonathan recognizes and is constantly educating himself on the harmful effects of racism, anti-LGBTQ+, sexism, ableism, and other forms of discrimination on people, families, and communities. He recognizes and acknowledges the very harmful effects of systemic racism and the legacy of colonialism on communities. According to the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, Jonathan must adhere to the following statement at all times:

College members do not discriminate against anyone based on race, ethnicity, language, religion, marital status, gender,

sexual orientation, age, disability, economic status, political affiliation or national origin.

In addition to the OCSWSSW code of ethics, Jonathan is also bound by the Standards of Practice from the Ontario Association for Family Mediation to maintain my status as an Accredited Family Mediator. The Standards of Practice contains the following statement regarding diversity:

“Mediators are required to create an inclusive environment taking into consideration Indigenous heritage, race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, family diversity, disability, creed, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression and capacity in order to design and maintain a meaningful process.”

Jonathan takes these statements very seriously in his work with clients and he is always endeavouring to improve his understanding and therapeutic approach with people from diverse backgrounds, through ongoing training, peer supervision and personal reflection. His professional obligations as a Registered Social Worker and an Accredited Family Mediator dictate that he must engage in a certain number of hours of diversity training each year, an obligation that he supports and embraces!

Jonathan has experience working with people from various First Nations in Southern Ontario, including Alderville, Hiawatha, Curve Lake, Scugog and Georgina Island First Nations. He also has significant personal experience with diverse people, having lived in France, Switzerland, Thailand, India and China and having traveled to over 23 different countries around the world, on four different continents!
